How was your Labor Day? Mine was extremely restful, I did only a little work on a front page update for LoveToKnow Antiques, where I am the editor, and a few things here and there but mostly I relaxed, chatted with friends, out oldest daughter and her husband, and of course, Marc.

It was good, and probably exactly what I needed..

This week’s  Marriage Builder Monday is something I have been thinking about alot…and that is being enthusiastic and affirming about your spouse and your marriage.

Have you noticed how on shows like “Everybody Loves Raymond”, “King of Queens” etc. that the husbands are stupid ? How many times have you been at a conference, even a Christian Women’s conference, and heard the speaker joke about the husband or the marriage?

Maybe you haven’t but I have.  There is a lack of recpect for marriage in the media, and there is a lack of respect for husbands…the jokes are just not funny.

I know that I do not like to feel disrespected.  I like to hear Marc tell people that I am fascinating, brilliant, intelligent, or whatever.  Hearing the pride in his voice makes me feel special, loved, and like I could accomplish anything as long as he believes in me.

I betcha husbands feel the same. So this week I am going to be careful what I say and how I say it…not just when I am speaking ot Marc but when I am speaking about him and about our marriage to others.

I do not wear the pants in the family, and Marc is not some buffoon.  I respect him, probably more than he knows, and I hope that others see  his strengths and abilities as well.

The proof is in, as they say, the pudding…and Marc has 8 kids that think he hangs the moon and the stars…Our oldest son is in the Air Force in Iraq (soon, he has a few more days in Japan before he goes) but he often tells people how amazing Marc is and what a truly godly man, a truly Christian man, he is.

It isn’t just about how we affirm our spouses to their face, often times it is the things we say when we think they aren’t listening.
