Marriage Quotes - Arguing

by Bald Man on June 21st, 2008

We’ve got a theme going this month for whatever reason, let’s stick with it.

The conception of two people living together for twenty-five years without having a cross word suggests a lack of spirit only to be admired in sheep.
~ Alan Patrick Herbert

One of the first things a relationship therapist learns is that couples argue to burn up energy that could be used for something else. In fact, arguments often serve the purpose of using up energy, so that the couple do not have to take the courageous, creative leap into an unknown they fear. Arguing serves the function of being a zone of familiarity into which you can retreat when you are afraid of making a creative breakthrough.
~ Gay Hendricks

I like the making up after arguing.

My husband now does not argue. He has been lying to me and keeping things to himself about what he does for 6-1/2 years.
    Now what???

    Maureen,
I wish I could offer an easy answer, but there is none. Yours is a difficult situation, and the only way through it involves hard work.
