Marriage Actually - An honest look at marriage

Why gamers make the best husbands…

by Kerri on May 13th, 2008

My hubby is a gamer. I can’t even say a former gamer…..he and his buds still meet for 12-sided-diemania. And I really don’t mind it. He’s not even a computer gamer. Oh no. He’s old school. Miniatures and boards and everything. Only, unlike when they were 12, there’s now beer involved. And their own basements instead of their parents’ (well, for most of them).

Anyway, here are the reasons that I think gamers make the best husbands….

1. When they’re out with friends, you know that they’re just hanging out in someone’s basement, sometimes your own.

2. When they get together with their friends, it doesn’t take much in the way of fundage out of your budget. They’re still playing the games they bought 20 years ago.

3. They tend to like lots of games (not just the ones involving goblins and archers), so you can usually get them to sit down for a game with you once in a while…..even if it’s Scrabble.

4. If your gamer is of the computer sort, you have all sorts of time to yourself in the evenings while they’re on raids. But the raids keep them attached to the computer, and the house, which is where your kids are sleeping. So you can even go out with your free time, and they’ll be happy about it because you won’t be sitting around saying, “Are you gonna be on that computer all night?”

5. There’s always good junk food snacks when the boys are around. :)

Have any points you’d like to add?

Game with them. It’s not just for boys.

I’ve never known a gamer to cheat. Ever. I’ve been dating them since high school and man…I’ll take me some D&D or even RIFTS (or Palladium but don’t tell my husband LOL) any day of the week.

The boys are polite, except when they’re not, and then you can shame them into silence.

Gamers are the best husbands ever. (Mine is actually a LARPer too…I’m so proud LMAO)

The best is raiding together :) Or a few PVP battlegrounds while the baby is napping. *sigh* Couple WoW time is great!

The best part is that he can’t complain about how many pairs of shoes and purses I own, because I just point to all the minis that he owns. :o)

Holly: Yes! How silly of me to forget how many gaming couples there are! I still take it as time to sit and read. :)

jennydecki: Yeah, my experience is the same as yours. Bald Man is the only gamer I’ve dated, but I can’t think of and cheaters in the guys he played/plays with. I’m sure others would have different stories, but I haven’t heard ‘em yet.

Barbi: Probably more time for that than a whole game of Scrabble during naptime. I think I always just tried to nap. :P

Emma: lol. I can’t go there, because I think all of his are about 20 years old.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. :)

[…] had a good gripe, so I figure it’s time. Despite all the wonderful things we say each other (Her gamer post was really sweet.), there are in fact a few things that each of us do to get on the other’s nerves. For […]

My wife was a gamer before we met (about 4 years ago). I’ve been a gamer since the 70’s: worked at a game company and now design games and sell them. In fact, next Saturday we’re driving 400 miles (one-way) to, among other things, play in the kick-off for a friend’s new Champions game. We won’t get to play in any other missions probably until the Fall, but that’s the way it is. Since I’m running the message board that is the campaign’s online presence, I’ll still get to participate virtually

Kerri, you’re lucky on #2. We don’t spend a lot on games, but every time we go to Phoenix we drop $50-100 at Game Depot. And it’s both of our selections, not just mine or hers.
