Wife Swap
Do you watch Wife Swap? You know, that ABC reality show featuring two (usually quite opposite) families who trade their wives/moms for two weeks?
Okay, this is one of those shows that I never thought I’d watch. Yes, I’m a little bit of a snob when it comes to what shows I will and won’t watch on TV. Anything where the characters or participants could just as easily be mistaken for guests on the Jerry Springer show is usually one that I won’t spend my time watching. At times, this show could easily qualify.
However, I just can’t stop watching it. I always seem to be home and in front of the TV when it comes on. This happens to be one of those times.
I can’t imagine trying to step into another wife’s/mother’s shoes for several weeks, knowing that a stranger was running my home (probably better than me) and deciding what was best for my kids. And JUDGING ME THE WHOLE TIME. Okay, so, that’s probably the biggest issue. I can’t imagine the details of my life showing up for the world to see, and all of those details being shown from the perspective of an outsider.
So, I know I would not be a good candidate for this show. But I sometimes wonder how other people don’t realize that they, also, are not good candidates for the show. When does it hit them? When they’re crying because they miss their families? When they’re screaming at the “other” spouse? When they’re at the “wrap up” portion of the show, the couples sitting across from each other, and one starts throwing a chair while the other is throwing punches?
Anyway, it’s good entertainment for me. :P And it is cool that, more often than not, the families do tend to learn and accept some changes from the other family’s lifestyle, no matter how awkward and awful it seems at the beginning.
Would you be willing to switch homes with the member of another family for any amount of time?

I like Wife Swap too even though there’s something in every show makes me somewhat uncomfortable. Just goes to show that some people are just made for each other.

You are right. I love that show too, but could not be on it! My great grandma used to tell us not to “…air the dirty laundry…” (at seven I had to wonder why you would hang the laundry out when you hadn’t even cleaned it yet), and now I understand what it means. I have to agree with her on this one.

Lisa: I agree. I don’t need a permanent record of me rolling my eyes at the way someone else lives, when they would probably be perfectly nice people if I weren’t forced to live with them. !
