So You Wanna Get Married?

Hey, United Statesians! (Hmmm… maybe that’s why we call ourselves “Americans” even though we’re only one country out of 35 in the two American continents.) If you’re thinking about getting married, do you know the requirements in your state? Did you know seven states still require a blood test to get a marriage license? And that Wisconsin and Minnesota require you to wait five days between applying for and receiving your marriage license? And that six other states require you to wait as many as three days after you get your license before getting married? And that your South Dakota marriage license expires after 20 days?

I suppose it will surprise no one to learn that Nevada requires no blood test and has no waiting periods. I do find it a little odd that the marriage license expires after one year; that’s far longer than many Vegas marriages last!
