Marriage Actually - An honest look at marriage

The Inn at Cedar Falls: Part 1

by Kerri on December 27th, 2007

So, I mentioned that Bald Man and I were going to actually get away to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and we did! Though one kid coming down with a stomach virus the night before we were supposed to leave just about stopped us. Thank goodness for a grandma who knew how much we needed to get away! And in whose care we knew our little boy would be comforted back to health!

So, we did make it to The Inn at Cedar Falls for a couple of days away. The only things I knew about the Inn were what I had gleaned from their website. In a desperate attempt to get away somewhere for our anniversary, I just started looking for B&Bs in our area. The Inn ended up about 2 hours from home, in a beautiful part of Ohio, and we were so pleased with our choice.

We chose to stay in a cottage instead of the Inn itself (they also have cabins available). This gave us a little privacy, and a two-person whirlpool tub in the room (what more could you need?). The room had a queen-sized bed and a toasty gas-burning stove, as well as some cushy rockers to sit in near the fire.

The back door to the cottage opened to a porch with a swing, a couple of chairs, and a view of the forest surrounding. Though not in its most glorious stage, a winter forest is amazingly serene and peaceful, and really added to our need for quiet (what parents don’t need quiet from time to time?!?!). The three deer we saw prancing through the forest when we arrived didn’t hurt to remind us that we really were out away from the city for a bit.

While we weren’t able to take advantage of the spa this visit, I can only imagine how much that would enhance our experience! We had one dinner and two breakfasts at the Inn’s restaurant, and they were all wonderful. From the huge sea scallops, to the vegetable strata, to the flourless chocolate torte, to the gingerbread pancakes, to the homemade granola, we felt like each and every bit was made to please us. The service was wonderful and the entire staff was so friendly and helpful.

I have to admit I was originally hoping that “away” would at least be somewhere out of state. I’m glad that I didn’t get my wish. It was refreshing to find such a beautiful retreat so close to home, and it makes it much more likely that we can return there soon! In the next post, I’ll share some of our outdoor activities from our trip!
