Marriage Actually - An honest look at marriage

Lights Out!

by Kerri on December 22nd, 2007

Okay, a quick observation and question here. Do you know anyone who leaves their Christmas tree lights on all the time, including when they’re NOT HOME?!?! Me, too!!!!!

How is it that these people don’t know that the one time you leave your lights on and leave the house, THAT is the time your house will burn down?!?! It is completely freaking me out that I know people who do this!!!!

And, actually, the point of all of that was to ask this, “Is there a paranoid and non-paranoid person in every couple?”

I am the paranoid person of our little duo. “Did you shut out all the lights? Did you lock the door? Are you sure? Did you put the chain on, too? Are you sure you locked the door? Did you lock it, unlock it, and lock it again to make sure the lock was working? Is the coffee pot still on? Can you go check? And when you check it, can you double check the doors again?”

Yeah, that’s only a slight dramatization of me.

I think of the couples that we know, and in about 90% of them, I can tell you exactly which person is the paranoid one. And I think it’s pretty evenly mixed between males and females. So, let me know. Is there a paranoid person in your duo?

And please turn out those Christmas lights!!!! :P

Like you, I am the paranoid one in our relationship. When I am home by myself, or even when he’s here, I always have the doors locked. Both locks so that no one can get inside. I even lock the bathroom door while showering because it makes me feel “safe”. Which is just silly, but I’m weird like that. But I am glad to know I’m not the only one that is dramatic and paranoid like that, haha.

And just to let you know I turn off my Christmas Lights when I’m not at home. : ]

Liz: It is so good to know that I’m not alone!!! Yeah, our doors are always locked, too. I hate feeling paranoid, but I’m usually thinking that’s it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks for letting me know about your tree lights. One less household that I have to worry about. :D
