A Christmas Combo
We’re less than a week from the Christmas festivities, and our plans are starting to take shape. This is the first Christmas since our first that we’ve have both sides of the extended family in town. (Go here for more details.) So, the inevitable questions are arising: What do we do? When and where do we do it? And with whom do we do it?
Having chosen to ignore my Holiday Law (”Make your own decision, make it early, and stick with it.”) we left the details of Christmas until now… for purely scientific reasons, of course. You, our loyal readers, deserve to know what might happen should you subject yourself to the last minute whimsy of family. No way we would procrastinate left to our own accord. No way! I protest greatly… perhaps even a bit too much.

The results of our little experiment? Everything is working out just fine, thank you. None of the local extended family are traveling away this Christmas; there are just a couple members from my side coming into town. With manageable numbers and the dual blessings of (1) non-overlapping holiday traditions and (2) amicable families, the 48 Hours of Christmas are shaping up this way:
Christmas Eve Day: Don’t know… I haven’t yet been given security clearance
Christmas Eve: My parents and aunts will come over for a simple meal on paper plates followed by gifts.
Early Christmas Morning: Kerri, the kids and I will see what Santa brought… though I’m just about ready to blow the whistle on him. I don’t see any reason why he should get credit for our big salad.
Late Christmas Morning: Over to Kerri’s mom’s house for more unwrapping.
Christmas Afternoon: A combo dinner with both sides of the family and Kerri’s mom’s.
The fact that my parents are in the throes of a remodeling project that has the kitchen is a state of major disarray only simplifies things. Here’s to successfully navigating Christmas logistics for another year. May serendipity, too, be on your side as you make your own plans.
