The Secret To Giving Your Spouse a Great Gift!
OK, while writing my “Go-To” Gift Lists the other night, I noticed something. A key… THE key, if you will, to getting your spouse a good gift. I almost said the perfect gift, but perfect is quite the claim. I’ll say “good” and leave it at that.
Now, if you in fact have found the perfect gift, please stop reading now. I don’t want the blame. However, there have no doubt been moments when you just weren’t sure what to get. In fact, you probably didn’t have the first idea where to start. If that’s you, then heed what I say below and you’re certain not to go wrong.
The Perfect Gift For Him
The key here is to take him down memory lane. The standard joke/accusation about guys being nothing more than big boys really isn’t too far from the truth in many ways. So, put that to your advantage for once. Get him something that reminds him of his childhood. Retro games, t-shirts, television shows, etc.
Be creative here. A Donkey Kong t-shirt is an acceptable substitute for a Donkey Kong stand up arcade game… though a stand up arcade game would be pretty damn cool. The important thing is to take him down memory lane and give him an excuse to be a kid again for a few moments.
(Note to guys - Being a man at most times is a prerequisite to having the freedom to be a kid again at other times. You are not really ten years old, and your wife is not a replacement for your mom.)
The Perfect Gift for Her
Guys, listen… carefully… please. The key here is to pamper your wife. That’s it. Your gift should remind her that she is your queen. For whatever reason women are more sensitive than us to the advertising carpet bombing that tells them they aren’t good enough at fill-in-the-blank. Your gift needs to communicate a simple message: “Bullshit! You are my wife, and I am overjoyed to be your husband!”
That is why “frivolous” things - candy, flowers, poetry, etc. - work. They tell a women she is worth “wasting” money on.
