Marriage Actually - An honest look at marriage

His and Hers Thanksgivings

by Bald Man on November 24th, 2007

The triptophane has my mind wandering so I thought I’d ask whether or not the Thanksgiving followed the stereotypical route in your house. You know? Ladies cook up a storm while the guys watch football. Then on Friday the ladies exact revenge by dragging their guys from store to store in the wee hours of the morning in search of shopping bargains. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work judging from the TV commercials.

We must not watch enough TV, because things don’t quite work that way around our house. True, Kerri does most of the cooking, but I try to help out where I can. The jellied cranberries and chocolate pudding pie are my responsibilities, but she both enjoys cooking and does a mighty fine job, so I’m more than happy to act as her sous chef. While I keep up on the football games thanks to Mr Gore’s wondrous invention, but I don’t think I watched more than a half between the two on network broadcast.

No, for us Holiday weekends usually mean games! Thursday evening was filled with Scattergories and Yahtzee! We’d have played more, except the kids were getting pretty cranky by 11:30, so we had to head home.

On Friday I’m more into the Adbusters scene than the door-busters scene. Kerri & I slept late - having played a midnight match of Scrabble the night before - and then puttered around the house. Kerri did buy some groceries on Friday, but that was because we were having the family folks over for more games, Cranium and Taboo to be precise.

What about you? How does the Thanksgiving weekend work in your household?
