Marriage Works! Ohio
The oddest commercial came on the TV tonight in the midst of some show. A commercial about marriage. I snagged the website at the end to check it out. Apparently, we have a go-marriage initiative in Ohio. It’s called Marriage Works! Ohio.
From their website:
Marriage Works! Ohio is a collaborative effort of diverse organizations united to help build healthy families and healthy communities throughout the Miami Valley of Ohio, through upholding the foundational value and purposes of marriage.
Is this just a Midwestern thing? Not that the rest of the country or world doesn’t believe in marriage, I’ve just never seen any site like this before. It appears to have some good info, and workshops, on conflict resolution and financing, etc. Still not sure what I think of it, though. Weird.
What do you think? Do you have anything like this in your neck of the woods?

I don’t know if they have anything like this is my area, but I’ve heard of these organizations sprouting up. I think the government is starting to realize how much divorce is hurting our society. Children are being raised without fathers, more and more children are without health insurance and are being raised in poverty, and then there are the statistics about the children who are left alone or raised without fathers. Hopefully, this will be a good thing. We have the baby boom generation. Maybe one day folks will look back at us and call us the divorce generation.

I’ve never heard of this, but it sounds like a great idea to me!

I wonder if it doesn’t have something to do with the fact we are just slightly north of the Bible Belt?
I think living in such a strong conservative region lends more appeal to making marriages work.
My family being from the deep south, grandpa always said things like this happened in Kentucky - but it was called the girls daddy with a shotgun.
All joking aside, I wish there were more programs that would help young people realize that marriage is rewarding, but it can also be the most difficult challenge ever.

Thanks for your comments! I still haven’t figured out what I think of the website and all (mostly wondering what the government is doing in all of this), but supporting marriages and helping them start off on the right foot are good things. And giving a realistic view of what marriage entails (as much as can be gleaned without actually having been in one) could help people really weigh the decisions they’re making.
