How many things can you do at once?
I am the queen of multi-tasking. Even before I became a mom, I could do many things at once. After I had kids? Forget about it. I can do 12 things all at the same time and not bat an eyelash (unless you want me to, cuz I can do that pretty well, too. :) ).
The problem is that I’ve gotten so used to doing so many things at once, to be in a constant multi-tasking mode, that it’s hard for me to do just one thing at a time.
So, last night, after the holiday festivities were over, Bald Man and I decided to watch a movie. I can’t remember the last time we just sat and watched a movie together. I mean, there have been plenty of times when we’ve been in the same room while a movie has been on. I was probably blogging, he might’ve been folding laundry (you can read this for more insight there). Or maybe I was knitting and he was blogging. Or maybe he was doing bills and I was scrapbooking (I’m such a stereotype!).
Anyway, the point is that, while we’re often doing things “together”, that sometimes just means we happen to be in the same room during a certain period of time that something might have been on the TV, for example. While it’s so good to sit and just enjoy time together, it’s still hard to not think of the 20 other things I could be doing at the same time!
However, spending time together, whatever that time may entail, is so important. To just be together. Whether it’s both being focused on a movie together, reading a book together, taking a walk and talking together, gardening together, sharing a sport together, etc., there have to be times in your relationship where it’s just the two of you and no distractions or other more important tasks or “to-do” items involved.
Time. With the one you love. Can’t be a bad thing to value.
